Broken Bonds: How Globalization Conceptualizations and Languages Transformed Experiences in Nigeria
Main Article Content
Abstract
The world is without doubt undergoing tremendous social, economic, political and technological transformation. These developments have resultedin fundamental changes in the nature, structure, and capacity of nation states and their relationships inter se, and with the componentunits in a State. Over the years, there has also been increased interaction between people from different countries facilitated by the tremendous improvements in Communications. Economic transactions can be concluded between persons in different countries without seeing each other. While these changes are not necessarily novel, they have shown the dynamism inherent in society. The changes have come to be generally referred to loosely as ‘globalization’ which is today one of the defining features of the contemporary world. Due to its amorphous and uncertain nature, globalization has become one of the most pervasive, but deeply contested processes and developments in present-day society. The fact that it is a ‘process’ makes it difficult for anyone to correctly predict its entire scope, contours and even destination. It is on this score that today every socio-economic and even political problem and development is attributed either directly or indirectly to globalization. This paper adopted doctrinal research methodology, and found that globalization affects humanity. Globalization poses a lot of challenges to humanity and for these challenges to be adequately addressed, policy makers must therefore, widen their horizons so as to arrive at carefully considered policies, legislations and judicial decisions.
